Getting to know jenny

Are you from New Orleans? If not, where are you from?

Yes, I was born at Oschner Hospital. My mom grew up in Midcity and my dad, born Uptown, moved to Metairie when it was still rural. My dad bought a lot in Metairie with his paper route money as a teenager. When my parents got engaged, my dad showed my mom the treed plot of land that would be their family home. That was the first time my mom had traveled to Metairie from New Orleans. It was 1960 and they live in the same house today. I have lived most of my adult life in Lakeview, but also Uptown, Algiers, and now settled happily in Gentilly.

What do you like to do for fun in NOLA?

I like to participate in the many cultural rituals offered in our city. My group of friends welcome the opportunity to create costumes and celebrate. Of course as a typical New Orleanian, I mostly enjoy eating and dancing. My mom is a Senior Citizen Olympic line dancer, so you can predict dancing is happening whenever and wherever possible with us.

What are your hobbies/interests?

I enjoy doing design projects around my home. I typically have several going on at the same time. Right now I’m gardening, installing landscape lights, putting up wallpaper in my bathroom, and painting outdoor art. I like re-purposing and using things in unexpected ways.

Jennys Favorites

Do you have a favorite restaurant to go to in NOLA?

This is probably the hardest question to answer with thousands of great restaurants in this city. Here’s just a few: I like drinks at The Drifter, brussel sprouts at Rizzuto’s, Grilled Chicken Cobb at Three B’s Burger and Wine Bar, tacos at El Pavo Real, Bulgarian feta at Saba, spicy chicken sandwich at Popeyes, and donuts from Shipley’s.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Is there any place you would like to travel in the future?

I love Italy, especially Venice. The warm and welcoming Italian people and the aged beauty supported and surrounded by water reminds me of home. There are so many places I want to travel. I would like to discover more of the Northeastern U.S. to start.
